Al eerder genoemd, maar het mag nog wel eens: een bijzonder mooi nieuw boek is "A Way Into India" van Raghubir Singh (Phaidon).
Raghubir Singh is hardly a household name, but the late photographer's way of traveling was certainly common. The automobile carried him around his native India, specifically that country's omnipresent Ambassador automobile. He uses the automobile as a setting, prop and composition device in every photograph in this charming book.
A car window, door or windshield serves as a composing element in many of the photos, framing a scene, drawing readers' eyes to action. In other photographs, the car itself is the center of attention in all its shiny glory. Americans have long professed a love affair with the automobile. They have more in common with the people of India than they might think.
